The Port Authority of Rijeka was established to manage, develop and operate the port of Rijeka, for international public transport, and was for size and importance nominated “harbour of special international and economic interest for the Republic of Croatia”. It was founded by a decision of the Government of Croatia (Official gazette no. 42/96). The staff of the Port Authority of Rijeka has gained experience in implementation of Projects financed by international development institutions.
Total investments in the modernization of the port of Rijeka is 190 million of Euros of which 160 million of Euros form World Bank loan and 30 millions of Euros form Government subsidies. Investments involve numerous components which will increase the level of service of the entire port area. Among the others:
- construction of new Zagreb Pier Container Terminal (to be put in operation in 2017);
- completion of the works on extension of Adriatic Gate Container Terminal in 2013.
TEN-T NAPA STUDIES project is implemented by twelve partners from Croatia, Italy and Slovenia:
