Luka Koper d.d., established in 1957, is according the Concession agreement, stipulated in 2008 for 35- years with the Republic of Slovenia, developing and managing the only Slovenian port. Luka Koper is in 51% owned by the Republic of Slovenia. Luka Koper is responsible for maintaining the high level of shipping and cargo traffic operations at the Port of Koper. In conjunction with its subsidiaries, it supplements and enriches the services provided by the Koper business and logistics center. The port area is a custom free zone. The basic activities performed in the Port of Koper are cargo handling and warehousing. They are conducted in 12 terminals specializing in handling and warehousing various types of goods, such as containers, general cargo, foodstuffs, light-perishable goods, livestock, RO-RO, timber, dry bulk and liquid cargoes. Port services are available day and night, 365 days a year and can be adapted to individual customer’s needs. Beside handling and storing, goods can be prepared for immediate sale, protected and their form of transport can be changed to suit all specific requirements. In 2013, the port of Koper achieved its record year by reaching 18 million of tons in the total throughput and overpassed 600.000 TEUs in terms of container traffics, which reconfirmed port’s leading position in this segment in North Adriatic. The port is also the second biggest in Mediterranean (after Barcelona) for handling cars (finished vehicles), has a leading role also for livestock exports and very important market share of timber traffics from European to North African markets.

The key development directions over the next few years will encompass the full exploitation of existing and the construction of new infrastructure, focusing on containers, but keeping its multipurpose nature. The main development plans for the port of Koper are confirmed by the Slovenian Government:

  • National Spatial Plan, published on the 24th of June 2011 in Slovenian Official Gazette (ANNEX 4A),
  • 5-year port development plan, confirmed on the 14th of April 2011 (ANNEX 4D) and up-dated on the 13th of June 2013 (ANNEX 4E).

 

The Activities 2.2 and 3 of the Proposed Action are in line with the confirmed documents from the Slovenian Government related to the port of Koper and Luka Koper company’s development strategy (ANNEX 4C).

Luka Koper d.d. is member of NAPA, ESPO and FEPORT. Luka Koper d.d. had launched the Slovenian Transport logistic cluster and Slovenian Waterborne technologic platform and has experiences with TEN-T projects and other projects funded by EU, mainly ERDF on territorial cooperation priorities.
